About Us

American Family Martial Arts has been strengthening families in the North County Coastal Area since 1990. Our students drive past many other martial arts schools on their way to training because our programs are complete and have stood the test of time.

All of our instructors are nationally certified by the World Martial Arts Ranking Association, founded by our Grand Master J. Pat Burleson, 10th Degree Black Belt (www.wmara.net).

Locally, Master Stephen Truscott, 7th Degree Black Belt and Mr. Mark Truscott, 6th Degree Black Belt, principals of Family Karate (www.familykarateusa.com) continue the legacy of Master Charles E. Hawkins, 8th Degree Black Belt and founder of Family Karate.

Master Truscott and Master Hawkins (Regional Director of WMARA) preside over all Black Belt tests.

Ms. Stephanie Zeno, 5th Degree Black Belt, is the Head Instructor of American Family Martial Arts and a student of Master Truscott's for over 26 years.
